Description

Castro Street Fair – Held the first Sunday in October, the Castro Street Fair is a community celebration that was founded by gay activist and neighborhood merchant Harvey Milk in 1974. Streets are blocked off at the intersection of Castro and Market, as well as the surrounding area, and hundreds of booths are set up by local groups, vendors, artists, gay organizations, and others. The booths, as well as music and food, draw thousands to the area for a day of celebration, bare-chested strolling (the weather is usually warm), and people-watching.
